What are your goals for the next week, month, year? How about 3 years from now? 5 years? What are your aspirations in life?
No idea? Trust me, I had absolutely no idea either, and to be honest with you, I still don’t. But what I do know is what ‘success’ means to me, and that is simply happiness. Sounds cliche but let me explain. Happiness to me might mean something COMPLETELY different to you.
Just because Joe next to you is making £100k a year doesn’t mean he’s happy. Just because Sarah is a size 16 doesn’t make her unahppy. Just because Bob is smiling every day, unfortunately, doesn’t mean he’s truly happy. Just because Sandra has the house, the car, the money she wants, does NOT mean she’s happy.
We all grow up with this idea in our heads that buying a house at 23, married at 24, kids at 25, £1mill at 30 is going to make us happy… I hate to say it but it just doesn’t work like that.
Set goals related to your TRUE happiness, not someone else’s. Know what I’m saying?
So anyway…
Having personal goals and something to WORK TOWARDS that are real and true to you, is the first step to feeling success and a sense of achievement. It really doesn’t matter how small or big your goals are, but just simply a tangible end result that you can visualise and build an emotional connection with to get you from good to great on your upward journey to push your each and every day! 1 step forwards is better than zero right?
Progress not perfection. I live by this.
Here are some reasons why it’s so so important to set goals.
- Take The Wheel & Feel In Control
So when people work hard but have no direction of where they want to go, they don’t feel like they are getting what they want, purely because they don’t know what they want themselves. Right? Once you have your own goals, you break out of auto-pilot and start living a life of your choice. Instead of letting others tell you what to do, take charge and think about what YOU WANT! - Laser Focus
Goals give you focus. You know exactly what to spend your time and energy on. The focus that goals give you, helps you to prioritise productive things that are going to help you and will make it clearer what things to eliminate that are going to waste time! - Maximise Results
Top performers, athletes, and successful people all set goals. That’s because when you set goals, you have a vision to work towards. You ensure that you are pushing yourself to get the best results, rather than sitting back and waiting for things to happen. If you don’t set specific targets and milestones, how are things going to improve? When you set goals, you think ahead. Even if things don’t go according to plan, that’s okay as you can review, adjust your goals, then steer your life towards how you want it to be. - Creates Accountability
Having goals makes you accountable. Rather than just talking about what you want to achieve, now is time to act on it! This accountability is accountability to yourself, not anyone else. No one has to know the goals you’ve set. I set weekly goals as well as having my long term goals. Each week, I will write my goals down and cross them out when I have met them. It’s so satisfying!! - Ignites Your Motivation
Goals motivate you and give you something to strive for. Even if you are feeling down, your goals help to remind you of the things you love, and will help to redirect your focus away from the negativity. - Live Your Best Life Girlllll!
Last but not least, goals ensure that you get the best out of life!! YAS! In 1 year’s time, you’ll be 1 year older. In 5 years’, you’ll be 5 years older. Goals with specific measures and deadlines ensure that you are making the absolute most of your life! This life is yours. There are millions, billions of things you can do, experiences you can have, places you can travel too and people you can meet.
What if you can do whatever you want? What do you want to achieve? What do you want to see, do, and experience in your life? How will those things make you feel?
Set your goals, make them happen, and watch as you create your best life ever.🙌🏻💛
